Bandar Sri Begawan, Saturday, November 15, 2009 – The Brunei Barracudas put together a come-from-behind victory to beat the Thailand Tigers 91-86 for their first home win in front of 2,000 fans.
The Barracudas were down 14 points at one point in the second quarter and walked off trailing by 12 at 43-55 at half time. Barracuda Michael Pilgrim made it a four-point deficit at 62-66 but the home team could not sustain the pressure and the gap widened to eight by the start of the fourth.
Francis Adriano jump started the Barracuda revival in the fourth with a three-pointer and a three-point play by new import Reggie Larry changed the complexion of the game, bringing the Barracudas to within two at 71-73.
Tigers’ Chaz Briggs made a two-point shot to give his team a seven-point breathing room at 71-78 but the Barracuda comeback was still on.
Another Adriano 3-pointer and a Larry two-pointer whittled the Tiger lead down to two (76-78) again. Larry finally drew the Barracudas level at 78-78 with a free throw and 5:13 left to play.
Both teams traded baskets to draw level again at 84-84 before Larry gave the Barracudas a lead they would never relinquish again at 86-64 and 2:01 to go.
A Caledon Camaso three-pointer then put more air between the teams with 1:29 left at 89-84. Tigers shooting then failed them in the last stretch. Attaporn Lertmalaiporn missed a 2-pointer and two 3-point attempts with teammate Axel Duruelo missing a three as well.
The 91-86 win stopped a three-game losing streak for the Barracudas.
“It was the energy that helped us win tonight (Saturday). He (Larry) is the right person for the team,” Barracuda coach Bong Ramos was quoted as saying in The Brunei Times.
“At the start of the game, I told the team that our opponents were very good three-point shooters. But the players underestimated them by not covering the perimeter and thought they were just lucky. They changed their attitude in the second half and came up with many defensive stops,” added Ramos.
Ramos was also happy about his new import, Reggie Larry.
“It is only his first game. He’s only been here for three days and he’s already in tip-top shape. I’m very satisfied with what he’s brought to the team,” he told The Brunei Times.
The win improved the Barracudas to a 2-4 win-loss record while the Tigers fell to 1-4. Barracudas occupy the last remaining playoff spot on the table while the Tigers are anchored to the bottom of the six-team league.

In his introductory remarks, Mr Obama described Mr Lee as ‘one of the legendary figures of Asia in the 20th and 21st centuries, somebody who helped to trigger the Asian economic miracle’.
The US leader added: ‘Singapore has been an outstanding friend and ally of the United States for many, many years, and so I am very much looking forward to the opportunity of hearing from the Minister Mentor his views on the evolving situation in Asia, as I prepare for my upcoming trip both to Singapore and to other key nations in the region.’
In about two weeks, Mr Obama will embark on his first major visit to Asia as President, stopping in major cities like Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai and Seoul.
In Singapore, he will attend the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit as well as the inaugural US-Asean summit.
