Kuala Lumpur, Saturday, January 9, 2010 – The Philippine Patriots crashed 59-67 to the KL Dragons to lose their second straight game in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) for the first time this season.
The Patriots found themselves in the unusual position of chasing the game against the Dragons over the first three quarters. At one point in the second, the Patriots were staring at a 14-point deficit.
Trailing 32-44 at the start of the third quarter, the Patriots closed the gap to seven points with four minutes to go in the quarter and eventually tying it up at 51 all with one minute left on the clock. However, the Dragons still nudged ahead 52-51 at the end of the third.
An impotent Patriots could only muster a measly eight points in the fourth as they were outscored 25-8 in the final stanza.
Rudy Lingganay had a team-high 14 points for the Dragons while teammate Jamal Brown had a double-double, with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Dragons shot 40% from 2-point field goal range.
Jason Dixon had his usual productive outing for the Patriots in the losing effort with a 19-point, 15-rebound contribution. Teammates Rob Wainwright (12) and John Alcaraz (10) were in double-digit scoring but the team shot an abysmal 26% from field goal range.
The loss sees the Patriots fall to a 9-4 win-loss record while the Dragons improve to 5-7.
The Patriots still remain top of the league while the win moves the Dragons into fourth position, one above the Brunei Barracudas who have played one game less.
The top four teams qualify for the playoffs at the end of January.

Why don’t you guys just only publish one full story? Instead of wasting your time posting these then going back and posting something else.
To those who attended the game: Why did Chris Kuete play only 10 minutes?
OMG! Patriots loosing again. This is definitely good news for Singapore Slingers. I hope that this slump of the Patriots won’t go through the playoffs.
The win by the Dragons is certainly huge which puts the pressure on to the Barracudas for the final playoff spot.
We update this post. We don’t post another one. We don’t get all the pictures and other bits of information at one go.
what can u expect from a team who has 3rd rated players and a team that was formed just to formally represent the country in this league. at least the asean imports of the other teams (pinoy imports) have jobs though.
The league is becoming more like a battle between the philippine players when they play against each other, plus the imports, well i have to include attaporn of the tigers as well. He’s the only local that has been playing consistently of all the teams..nothin else..theres no one else..
i can still say it will be the barracudas and the indonesian team in the finals.
a fight broke out in the middle of the game, during the 2nd quater and 3 dragons players got ejected for stepping into the court from the bench, chris was on the bench
and he stepped into the court
All the teams in the ABL had lost at least back-to-back games. This type of trend should be looked at next season that it is possible that every team in the ABL will lose at least two consecutive games.
Lets wait when the playoff start and who will be the team to play in the playoff..
Playoff is totally different than regular season..I will not talk much bout the Patriots because they are a championship team in ABL..They have the advantage in the playoff because of their deep bench..
Dragons win without Chris! This tells us that Patriots is going down to the bottom.
@ slingerrocks.. i dont know how you do your math but even if patriots lose all remaining games they wont be at the bottom..
Slingers will be at the top of the table at the end of the season
SMB is peaking at the right time. I heard that there are a lot of Indonesian players who are better than some of the SMB players (Like Patriots, SMB does not have the best players of its country). Maybe they can acquire or loan them for the playoffs.
But kudos to the Slingers for never giving up on their opening day lineup despite that slump in mid-season (ok – they might have few local players to choose from, but they can always replace any of their 4 imports, right?).
The Slingers need not replace any player. We play as a team and we need all 12 players to contribute their respective roles night in and night out. The Slingers team chemistry is the best right now, better than the other ABL teams which have been switching their line-ups throughout the season.
The time for replacing players is long gone – no way should any team replace a player this close to the playoffs.
Agree with slingerrocks on this, other teams have far better individual players than anyone on the slingers roster – but the team chemistry is best with the slingers. In addition to that, the players are absolutely fearless and just never give up. Even if they are playing badly or shooting poorly they seem to have the belief in themselves that if they keep trying, keep shooting, eventually the game will turn. And it always does!! Thats what makes their games so exciting – they always go past their potential.
Time for replacing a player is NOT long gone. It just happened recently…SMB just had a change this past week.
I do believe SLingers locals can still give more. But they are not consistent. No local has been consistent for 2 to 3 straight games.
I read about the aftermath of the scuffle from this game. The ABL imposed fines on the players involved.

Actually, im impress how slinger coach send combination on the floor and never jeopardize any positions, but doesnt use all 12 players, i totaly disagree with slingerock. this is amateur train coach.
go down further, le blanc force to play PF, but he is originally he play 2-3 position, jeopardize to Ng.
