Since the first ASEAN Basketball League season is two-thirds of the way through and rosters are now settled, who do you think would make a dream starting five?
Let’s have fun with a reader-nominated and reader-driven poll, shall we?
If you think there are still players who deserve to be in the poll, let us know in the comments section.
Each reader will have 12 votes and you have to use your votes all at one go.
The player who has the most votes for that position (PG, SG, SF, PF, C) will be in the starting five while the player with the second highest number of votes for that position will make the Red Hoops all-star team.

@les : Nice vote u made. This vote made Asean Basketball more lively.
Thanks. Glad you enjoy the voting, Agustian. I’ve added Prihantono’s name to the poll at your suggestion.
Anybody remember what Prihantono’s playing position?
Prihantono is a SF.
Thanks, Slingerrocks.
AgustianRusd,
Well, I based my assessment on stats..as of now, the 2 Thais have better stats (game average). But the season is not over and the playoffs (wherein the 2 Thais will not participate), you could be right regarding Mario.
Maybe if Mario gets more comfortable with SMB system and starts lighting the hoop….I’ll put him at the top.
I do not know one of them but i will for the most tallest anyway
On SMB-Brunei game:
Avenido had a double-double, is he the first ASEAN player to do the trick? Or did somebody else accomplished the feat earlier?
Mario Wuysang just laid a fat egg, Avenido’s defending him?
For the regular season, I think Avenido is the best ASEAN player (sorry, I basd this on the stats only).
Let’s see who lights it up on the playoffs.
1.I already mentioned here month ago, that Avenido is the best asean player.
2. Mario wuysang play for NCAA div 1 expansion team record 4 wins 25 loss.
3 No slingers,SMB,Dragons,Tigers player belong to top 10 asean player.
4. Patriots acquiring Freeman is big mnistake, why spending budget only to play against very weak team in whole ASEAN
Mentioned 6 weeks back, avenido is the best asean player.
mario wuysang n amin prihantono are great players..
correction:
john alcaraz is john paul alcaraz
Put Espiritu and Lingganay in the line-up. This will be a UE Warriors-like team. lol
Thanks for the correction, Mack. Updated.
hello sir,can you put gabriel freeman in the ballot from RP patriots he’s a good player he scored 21 pts, 16 rebs in his 1st game in ABL.
and he’s shooting guard (SG)
@go Patriots, I agree that Freeman is a good player, but he is not a shooting guard, but a PF in the ABL, as seen from his position against Thailand the previous game.
I vote all Satria Muda players : Nakiea Miller, Alexander Hartman, Faisal Julius, Amin Prihantono, Mario Wuysang.
So sad, there’s no Rony Gunawan, Youbel Sondakh, Christian Ronaldo Sitepu on the list
Go Satria Muda……………..
You can nominate them if you like.
go…go..go.. “maRio wuYsang”,.:)
“Ronny” Gunawan should be spelled “Rony” Gunawan and he is a Centre.
Youbel Sondakh is a Small Forward
Christian Sitepu is a Power Forward
Elmer Espirtu should be a Power Forward, not a small forward.
Freeman is legitimate scoring guard can shift to small forward Position 3, NOT PF! he like to shoots from the outside, slash the shaded lane
Power forward and Center play low pose position.
Is rensy bajar still playing on SMB Indonesia? i didn’t see him play on the court this year.
Elmer Espiritu Rocks!
Please Hanoi, Freeman plays PF for the Patriots. We are talking about ABL positions. Who cares whether he was a SG in the past? In the Patriots, he is their starting PF, so he is a power forward in this league.
why not put all the name of the players here its unfair to those non- english speaking fans from asean.. they know how to vote since they know the players name..but they dont know how to nominate.. with that…
i hereby nominate all the players in the abl..hehe
i put in the names of the Satria Muda players already.
that’s a lot of typing, 3stars. ; )
haha..sorry man im just playin..i kinda know your going to say that..
Looking at Avenido’s stats, he already has 2 double-doubles.
I guess he leads all ASEAN players on this category.
too bad if Brunei won’t make the playoffs – Avenido has been the most productive ASEAN player so far.
Yes, you can put an all UE warriors lineup (looks like only Lingganay has so far deserve a citation) if you want – too bad it won’t make up for their title drought in the UAAP.(almost 25 years right?).
Amin, dangerous 3pts shooter from Satria Muda Britama
Slingerrock! Freeman plays PF for the Patriots?
I never seen him play in ABL or in his previous PBA stint, but looking at his stats, i can tell you, if you send him for PF, its either suicide to Patriots or slayer to any ABL team!
SEPARATE WESTERN IMPORTS TO ASEAN PLAYERS!
Re-start the voting…
I re-iterate again. No slingers,SMB,Dragons,Tigers player belong to top 10 asean player.
All TOP ten asean players are only within Patriots and Barracudas!
- Good in their team or good in as in their individual positions, compare to any ABL teams around
why Amin Prihantono on SF???
he is a pure Shooter…
@george,
A pure shooter can be assigned to the small forward position. Glenn Rice is a pure shooter (there was a comparison a decade ago between Kendall Gill of the Hornets who plays the 2 while Rice of the Heat plays the 3; Relatively to each other: Gill plays more like a 3 because of his versatiliy while Rice plays more like a 2 because he is designated as the sniper)
SF, for me the best player ever in this Position is Scottie Pippen, over larry bird, julius erving chriss mullin.
Hmmm.. I’m a Bird fan…
Larry Bird:
11 time First NBA Team
3-time MVP
Had 1 season that he did not win MVP but his stats (28pts, 7.5 assts, 7.5 rebs) is superior to Pippen’s best season (21 pts,7rebs, 7 assts)
NBA Finals MVP
Triple Double Specialist
Lots of clutch baskets.
Lifts the level of his teammates
designated taker of the last shot.
Clutch in playoffs (Game 7 shootout against Nique, steals Isaiah’s pass)
Scottie Pippen:
When MJ’s not his teammate, not spectaular.
Remember the TONi Kukoc game winner? Pippen wanted to take last shot…
Remember their series against the bad boys?
Larry bird is my just my 4th NBA player
1. Scottie Pipen, i see it differently, Jordan will never carry alone the bulls to champ without scottie.. Jordan made retirement, pipen bring the bulls atleast to east finals. Pippen play position 1-4, aside from good offensive player he still a member of defensive team for several NBA season
2. Dominque Wilkins, should have won the 1987-1988 Slumdunk not Jordan.
3. Kevin Mchale, the smooth operator with deadly turn around shots.
I used to wear Jersey no.32 after him, in all my high school basketbakll years.
4. Larry bird, critised by many including his team mate for being selfish, he like to shoot and carry the team by himself.
Larry bird is my just my 4th NBA player
1. Scottie Pipen, yes, Jordan have won 1 time with Horace Grant, but solidified the bulls line up and couple of title with arrival of scottie.. i see it differently, without scottie i doubt jordan can bring another title. Jordan made retirement, scottie bring the bulls atleast to east finals. Pippen play position 1-4, aside from good offensive player he still all time defensive team member for several NBA season
2. Dominque Wilkins, should have won the 1987-1988 Slumdunk not Jordan.

you make me laugh Hanoi,
Nobody in his right mind would criticise Bird for being selfish.
Just look at his Assist numbers. Those Assists are not the “oops, impossible to make the shot, I’ll just pass to a teammate this time” version.
Scottie Pippen is the selfish one. Remember that time that he refused to play when Phil Jackson assigned Toni Kukoc for the game winning shot?
I mentioned here once that i am all time Celtics fans-Mchale,Ainge,D.Johnson,Bird in 1980s.
- Larry bird is one of most expensive rookie and much become famous for making crucial shots.
The 1989–90 season marked the last time McHale was healthy enough to play in all 82 regular season games for the Celtics, but the season was one of discontent for Boston. Second-year point guard Brian Shaw left the team to play in Europe after a salary dispute, and Larry Bird—back from his injuries—was criticized by teammates, including McHale, for taking too many shots and trying to dominate games on his own
It is great Redhoops is doing this yet this is the PLAYOFF TIE BREAKER & once again no live feed… why are you letting fans down at the most crucial time of the season Redhoops? You know we appreciate u guys but if you are no longer going to have live feed commentary, who out there is going too?!
too bad, that slingers had lost and fail for finals berth.
Kudos Satria Muda..
Go Indonesa.. Yay…
See in the final, Philippine..
@Dear Deana
Red Hoops, if you don’t already know, it’s completely run by a crew of volunteers who have no reasons to abandon other more important commitments to do this. To many of my volunteers, Red Hoops is an important part of their life but it is not their life, and throughout the season they have given what they can of their time, energy and effort to engage the Red Hoops community!
So no one is letting down no one because volunteers are not obligated to anyone when they step up to do a job. I hope our live commentary have served you well this season – and of course we are always looking for more hands to keep Red Hoops going – so hopefully what we have done this season will encourage more people to volunteer on Red Hoops!
Both fans have strong presence, from 1-3 quarter seems that the game are building up for final minutes showdown,SMB steal the games in the last 4 minutes.
+ 1 volunteer to redhoops..
