Red Hoops is the first and only English-language basketball site dedicated to covering the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).

Red Hoops was started in 2009 to celebrate the inauguration of the ABL and to provide an online meeting place for the ASEAN basketball community.

ASEAN is a 550-million strong region and we are a culturally diverse community. Sports is a great community builder and the ABL has potential to bring this region close in a way that politicians and businessmen cannot.

If you are a basketball fan living in Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Bandar Sri Begawan, Singapore and Manila, we welcome you to make Red Hoops your ABL hangout online.

In fact, if you think you write a mean game story or shoot wonderful basketball pictures, we welcome readers to send their stories and pictures to us to share with our readers from all over ASEAN.

Based in Singapore, Red Hoops is also currently working closely with media agencies in Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei to bring you the news on the ABL.

OUR CREW

Leslie Tan is the creator of Red Hoops. He was the Marketing Communications Manager for Nike Singapore (’02-’04), Brand Manager for Tiger Beer (’98-’99), and was also a sports presenter on SportsCity, a sports channel set up by MediaCorp Singapore (’00-’02).

Jan has lived on three continents but she remains an Asian girl at heart. Having spent her formative years in artsy Australia, Jan is staunchly resistant to a nine-to-five office job. She has since opted for the byline of a perpetually curious Sports Journalist who doubles up as a “lecturer” in Sports Sociology and Sports Psychology at the savviest polytechnic in Singapore. Though football is her first language (and racket sports her second), Jan is loving hoops lingo.

Koh Yizhe is the youngest member of the Red Hoops crew and a second year student at the savviest polytechnic in Singapore with Sports and Leisure Management the focus of his study. Loving sports of any shape or size, Yizhe fell in love with basketball when he was astounded by the magic of Kobe Bryant in 2005 (when the Lakers barely made it to the playoffs). Ever since, he has never gotten tired of seeing an alley-oop dunk.

Erwin Wong is our resident “statsman”, remembering numbers from long past games in a way that always astounds us. His love for the game of basketball sees him leading the live blog commentary at all Slinger home games.
