“Piyapong Piroon (Tigers, #23) is the captain of the Olympic national team, he’s the team’s leader and he plays hard and smart, he’s a strong leader for the entire team,” said Tigers head coach Chuck Davisson. (Photo 1 © Lai Jun Wei/Red Sports)
Both the head coaches of the KL Dragons and Thailand Tigers believed that their away wins in Singapore were assisted by an off-colour Slingers.
After their comprehensive 84-74 away victory over the Slingers, KL Dragons head coach Goh Cheng Huat remarked: “I do think the Slingers had an off-day playing against us. They were not in-form, missing shots under the baskets were costly to them, while we were patient. I still think they are one of the top teams in the ABL.”

The local cagers of the Thailand Tigers and KL Dragons have added an exotic twist to the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL), contributing significantly to their teams’ havoc-wreaking sessions against the Slingers in Singapore.
As the Chinese proverb “crouching tiger, hidden dragon” underlines, the talented and perhaps most dangerous people are often hidden from our view and the stellar showing of the previously unheralded Thai and Malaysian cagers in Singapore should serve as a timely reminder that unearthing local talents is fundamentally at the heart of the mission of the ABL.

Singapore Indoor Stadium, Monday, December 7, 2009 – The Thailand Tigers survived a late rally by the Singapore Slingers to edge the home side 65-62 and subject them to their second defeat in as many games in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).
The Slingers started the season with four straight wins, but after falling to the Philippine Patriots last month, things went downhill from there. Although they managed a slim 61-59 victory over Satria Muda BritAma in their next away game, the Slingers were then defeated 84-74 by the KL Dragons in their next match at home. With this latest setback, the Singapore Slingers now have a 5-3 win-loss record.
